Freedom

Cheers for those who enjoy their freedom, and fear nothing but to be enclosed. Those who do what they want, who risk everything always carrying a smile that won’t ever leave their faces no matter what happends. Those who will always be free, because they trully want it that way.

We’re as free as we want to be. Only we can imprison ourselves, only we can set us free.

Chapter 1: Success

Gavin! – David shouted as he moved through the crowd of people making the line at the movies.

Gavin just staring at a beautiful red lips brunette girl who was sitting just a few feet away , whispering with two of her friends. She had not yet noticed his rapt admirer.

Gavin! – Again David, who was already beginning to feel ridiculous shouting from the other side standing in the crowd.

The sensuous movement of her red lips had him completely mesmerized, but his trance did not last long until the vibrator on his mobile phone woke him.

David was desperate calling him from the other side. Gavin answered as he looked up  rushed to find his friend in the crowd

– Hey fool, your date is with me, not the girl – said without greeting him and with sarcasm – give her a card, the movie is about to start and I will not lose my seat.

– I’m regretting this date – Gavin said facetiously – I’m starting to believe you’re not my type , I’m for letting you standing and telling the lady to accompany me.

His right hand was looking in his jacket pocket for a business card, had taken very seriously the advice of his friend, the girl was too beautiful, deserved at least one dinner and a kiss, he thought.

–Ha ha—were David last words.

He took a breath and turned toward her, who saw him coming and stopped speaking to her friends.

– Hello – said, as he handed his card – my name is Gavin, I could not help looking at your beautiful hair from where I was, I would like to take you out sometime, if not uncomfortable.

The girl had a very serious expression, but not to be rude, took the card and looked at it.

– Can call me anytime – Gavin said in an attempt to get a word from her, who still looked at him without saying anything. Her friends laughed mockingly.

– Thanks for your kind offer – was all she said as he tried a smile.

Gavin stood there for ten seconds, counted, to see if anything else came out of her mouth. But without more words he timidly turned to meet a mocking David who had seen the show from the other side.

Gavin approached and saw a bully David, he made a “do not disturb” face.

-She’s Crazy about you – he said as he patted his back.

Two weeks after Gavin had forgotten that girl, almost completely. Now he was accompanying his mother, Victoria , who had been left alone due to a unexpected trip of Martin, his father, to Mexico City.

– Would you like me to prepare seafood soup?-Victoria asks.

– If you do not mind, I will not oppose- said as he sat at the breakfast bar. The question was a mere spare, because all the ingredients were ready for the pot -You know, I have to go back to London next week, they can’t live without me.

– I can imagine – Victoria responds while adding carrots to the boiling water – Now I remember I’ve told you several times that you have to get a girlfriend, don’t leave the train, if you know what I mean—continued while giving him a classic mother look.

Of course, Gavin knew what she was talking about when she only speaks about that! — but please don’t you dare to bring an English woman, Panamanian are quite nice after you get used to them , and are more conservative, just like me.

– I really don’t think I’m going to get a Panamanian girlfriend I two weeks, mom–laughed

– The one who perseveres reaches- replied while she sighed-  you’re not going to find someone who cooks like me anyway.

– I know Mama- said as he approached to hug her – no one cooks like you.

That was exactly what Gavin likes to do, or not to do: be home, be pampered and do nothing, despite having 36 years, ne never left  his usual teenager hobbies, football , video games and of course , cartoons.

Went to sit on the couch to watch his favorite cartoons, but as he sat, began to feel an unusual migraine, for start, and that is saying a lot, migraines were not common on him.  Tried to ignore it, picked up the remote and began to switch channels, but suddenly he froze, and in a blink of eyes felt as if instead of changing the television channel,  he has changed his head , followed by a terrible pang on the head, just like a lightning .

Not knowing what it was, leaned back on the couch as he turned off the television. Now the light and sound annoyed him, so he closed his eyes and covered his ears.

-Mom!-Called – do you have anything for migraine? I’m not feeling well – said. However, no one answered -Mom!-again.

He sat on the couch and looked toward the kitchen, but there was nobody. He got up slowly and went to the stove, where there was nothing on the fire. Went to the rear garden and walked around the house, but there was not a soul. Came inside and went to his parent’s room only to confirm that he was apparently alone. He started to get angry <did she just left me alone?> thought.

Being in that room, he heard the front door opening.

-Gavin!-called his mother – Want some seafood soup? -Asked, but Gavin was now angry.

– You asked me that already, mom, I said that if you wouldn’t mind I wouldn’t oppose- warned as he walked towards the kitchen.

– But I just got here, Where were you?-Asked Victoria.

– Looking for you, where did you go so fast? Asked

– I went to the supermarket and two hours are not fast, you’re pale-she said as he touched his forehead – are you okay ?

– Not really—he replied a bit confused, but had just realized that the migraine was gone.

He decided to ignore that blaming that weird migraine and went back to sit on the couch to keep watching cartoons.

– It is because of hunger, I am sure. The soup will be ready in a while-said Victoria – You know I have said several times that you have to get a girlfriend , do not you go the train, and don’t you dare to bring an English girl, Panamanian are quite nice after you get used to them , and are more conservative, just like me. You see how picky you are, if you do not eat you claim to be spoiled.

– Listen to your mother, ‘said a male voice – the Panamanians have better shape.

Gavin jumped back and turned to look toward the door, his father had just come over carrying grocery bags.

– Dad? Asked surprised – When did you come back?

– From where? Asked the male voice

– Mexico.

– Mexico? No, my trip is next week -said Martin.

Gavin was now puzzled -Really? -Asked one more time, and his father replied with a positive movement of the head as he walked to the kitchen, uninterested in the strange confusion of his son.

He sat on the couch and think for a moment about what just happened. After a while, he could not come up with a logical answer so quitted on it by finally making guilty to poor sleep and migraine.

The next morning he was waken up again by that strange migraine and suddenly …  had that same feeling, as if someone changed a channel inside his head. He stared at the ceiling of his room until the pain was gone and the vibration of his mobile phone made him jump.

He looked at the screen and could read the name “Lily”, but did not remember anyone by that name.

– Hello? – Answered.

– How are you dear-said the voice of the girl named Lily, I’m in the coffee shop, I’m coming to pick you up in about ten minutes. Do not tell me you’re still asleep.

– Yes, said- stunned -Well, no, I do not know -he stammered .

– You forgot-Lily said in a sad voice.

– No, of course not … – he said quickly- I just woke up, but I’ll be ready for when you arrive.

– Ok, I’ll take you coffee.

– Yeah … – answered quickly closed the call

<Now who is Lily?> Thought.

He looked at the clock on his bedside table and saw the time: 9:12 a.m. so he ran to shower and get ready to meet Lily.

Of course, as the shower is the best place to think, the incident with his parents returned to his mind, only that now he could not tell if it had been a dream. To find it out he obviously had to cross words with his parents, but the reason kept telling him that something was wrong.

And is that Logics were good to Gavin, well, more than good: he was Professor of Logics and Practical Philosophy at the Saint Paul’s University in London, a pretty new university, which few knew about, but supportive to young researchers, so it was obvious that he was a methodical guy … at least with his profession.

Gavin was born in Panama, his mother was from the country, his father, Martin was a pilot who retired from British Royal Air Force, and although he was born in the Canal country, always wanted to return to London, where he has spent half his life. Now, he was on vacations and decided to return home to his parents to make them company while writing on a new theory.

The phone was ringing at the pace of the melodious notes of “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay, indicating that was is likely that Lily was already waiting outside his home.

-Gavin! – Called his mother on the other side of his bedroom door…- Lily is here – He opened – I think she’s not coming in, looks somewhat hasty, give he my regards.

With a kiss on the cheek and an “ok” said goodbye to his mother; however he could not help but feel nervous to ignore the identity of the girl Lily… and with good reason.

The first thing that Gavin saw when he opened the front door was a shiny brown-haired Lily, with juicy red lips: so yes, it was her, the girl from the movies.

<What did I miss?> Said to himself, shocked.  He could not help staying still on the doormat of his house, holding the door half closed, there, staring in amazement at the girl, and now only filled with a question: was she his girlfriend or just were friends?

– Look at her, is so beautiful — whispered Victoria who was right behind him waiting for him to leave to close the door , he jumped , the words of his mother took him out of the trance – why do not you ask her to be your girlfriend ?

That was the answer he needed. He couldn’t just reach out and get in the car and kiss her if she’s not his girlfriend, or not to kiss her if she was.

Either way, he thought he was lucky, for the mere fact that she was there. What bothered him most was that still did not come to his senses and could not remember how they got to that point of amity, because the last time he saw her, it was precisely the first.

Nevertheless, it seems that having handed her a business card that day was a success, in that moment he thanked David in his mind, for coming up with a crazy but effective idea.

About Life Switchers

Hello! Thank you for visitting.

As you may have seen there is a tab named “Life Switchers” on my blog, and for now It’s empty, however, hopefully since tomorrow, It won’t.

I’ve been writting a particular story since I was fourteen which I named “The Legend of the Silver Sword”; unfortunatelly I’ve been growing up and many events of my life have kept me away from writting it; of course I’d like to share it with you, but It’s so complex I’m going to publish it when I’m done.

In the meantime I’m going to write a short story, “Life Switchers”, for you to enjoy.

As you may have noticed –I actually don’t remember if I’ve written it somewhere– English is not my native language, so if you see any grammatical mistake, please let me know so I can keep improving my english. My native language is Spanish… cute, I know, lol.

I’ve been writting since I was 11 and always kept everything well guarded, but recently I was stolen my most precious working tool… my laptop.

Now I’ve lost almost everything I’ve wrote, except by “The Legend of The Silver Sword”, which thankfully I sent to a friend once; so kindly he sent me back the first chapter -and the most important-a few months ago.

I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers!

Lily 😀

About the severe reviews for After Eart (The most underrated film of the year)

A few months ago I was looking for the upcoming films and I found this trailer. At first I wasn’t impressed despite the great visual it showed; but then I started to see that the film was everywhere and finally it got to my nearest theatre. I took my mom with me and as always, she loved it; as for me, yes it convinced me in a very astonishng way,

Today I was looking down the Movies tag on wordpress and saw a review about Riddick and After Earth came to my mind instantly.

I found that the aproximate budget was $130,000,000.00, yes, a very good budget; but the earnings didn’t reach twice that number. I was quite dissapionted of that because my first thought when I left the theatre was “Great movie, I did enjoy it”

I’m very open minded when it comes to films, except maybe on horror films (I have an anxiety disorder which makes me not able to watch horror movies) and I did like the movie, but… why other people didn’t like it?… I wondered

So I searched for a few reviews on google that we the total opposite to my appreciation of the film.
My concolusion is that people was to hard on the film, maybe because everyine was conditioned to some aspects and the expectations were not high enough.

I found a particular review from a guy who “must-not-be-named” (becaus It’d make him a bit more famous, and I assure you he just doesn’t deserves it) who writes for a web magazine from Spain, who has a G+ profile with only 52 accuaintances and a Twitter account with a few more followers, and he said some random stuff about why the failure of After Earth, related to Shyamalan’s lack of ideas… I’m being polite, he said Cursed! Jaden Smith lack of carisma and Will Smith intervention to make of his son an actor at any costo. And of course that bad excuse for a critic related to Scientology,

Sure, I won’t take credit to the fact that Will Smith wants his son to be a good actor too, he’s just behaving like any other normal dad. And also to the fact that Jaden is a kid yet, he’s not even 16 wich can’t give him a status of a great actor… yet, one never knows. Also, after some successful films Shyamalan is trying to make a space for him arround the new blockbuster films such as Avengers or Transformers.

Despite of all of the above, I have to say that Will Smith is doing a great job with Jaden; he used to hangout with Justin Bieber… that is no longer happening. This After Earth “failure” may serve of experience for him in the future, you don’t always get success in all you want, even if you are Will Smith, who may be regreting his decision to not play Neo on Matix to play in the quite funny but bizarre Wild Wild West, wich obviously didn’t reach half success than the other one. Life happends and for now, he’s just as any other kid trying to get a place in the film industry,

Now.., Shyamalan: I have no doubt he’s one of a kind filmmaker but he’s pulling with a tail of unsuccessful films and hard reviews. But once again, critics love to do drama on directors carrers (as if George Lucas or Steven Spielber didn’t had bad films). A few years ago I decided that Shyamalan was one of my favorite directors because of he content of the films: Sixth Sense, Signs and despite of what everyone says I really liked The Village. The script is always emotional and dark, and at the end it has a nice message: if you haven’t figured out that Signs was about faith and that The Village was about getting over then you have nothing to do by making a review about those films, Let’s just please take “devil” away from this, as I said before I can’t watch horror films, however I’ve heard it was a very good movie, short but intrigueing and scary at the end of coarse.

Finally:

From 1 to 10 I’d give After Earth a solid 8. The film per se was very excyting, the story is simple but the events make it excyting.

The drama between a son longing for a comprehensive father and the father pushing his son to the limit to make of him the best is catchy for anyone who had a similar situation at some part of their lifes, we all have, I’m pretty sure. The scenario is quite impressive, first, the story about the exodus from the earth to a place where humans are invaders is not new but is not out of fashion eiter.

The adaptation of humans to their new not friendly enviroment is convincing. I’m pretty sure some of us got quite impressed with that due to what we’re actually doin to our planet. The millitary parts are always well accepted and create a discipline drama which in this case is related to the father-son relationship.

Of coarse, the visual context is just brilliant. A wild earth and everything evolved to defend against human forces; the scenario is just astonishing. I have nothing else to say about that,

The fear issue as main aspect of the film puts the audience in a vulnerable situation, they place themselves in the boys boots, so any emotion from him will became the audiences.
The main character is well represented as a shy and insecure boy who has never risked anything so I find Jaden performance quite adecuate for this film in particular. The climax of the movie is complete, no missing additional and overwhelmin aspects.
Those who claim this to be the worst film of the year didn’t get the drama or didn’t want to get the drama, It was all there, because on my opinion the movie has all the adecuate elements, I find Jaden performance is acceptable also. Maybe when they saw that Shyamalan was the director the first thought was… another dissapointing film.. Massive thoughts like that crushes the film before it comes out to theates.

My final point is: critics went too had on the film. From my perspective the movie wasn’t missing anything. Yes, perhaps Jaden is not the best actor but he’s young.
The psicologycal context of the film makes it appealing, hoevers is agreable that not everyone gets the main idea of “fight your demons”. I?I’ll buy the DVD for sure.

After diving on a sea of terrible reviews in IMDB, I found some people who may have cought the esscence:

Enjoyable and entertaining

I’ve given this film a 9 just because I was genuinely happy with my experience. I was engaged and entertained, the movie wasn’t a three hour stint like most these days (!!) and I cared about the characters. I’d really love to take my 11-year-old nephew to see this; in fact, prime audience for this coming-of-age film would be preteen / young teenage boys. Maybe, if the film had been marketed differently, it would have got higher reviews? It’s not on the same level of sophistication as Oblivion or Avatar so maybe it’s not as suited to a more adult audience – saying that, in the UK it IS a 12A.

Also, I thought the acting was good. Perhaps Will Smith has been criticised because he’s playing a very disciplined person? It can be hard to convey emotion while also playing an emotionally disciplined character! I really didn’t have a problem with Jayden, either, and thought he did well in his role… I’d also gone to see the film with some trepidation having read a number of negative reviews, so was pleasantly surprised. I’d by the DVD 😛

Good Movie — Bad Reviews Are Full of Crap

10/10

I have no idea who is sending these bad reviews, nor where their expectations come from, but my wife and I just saw this movie, and both of us thought it was quite good.

The acting was NOT “wooden” as one review I read stated. The characters are at times SUPPOSED TO BE rather stiff. And both Jaden and Will Smith turned in good performances. If you didn’t like them, then it was the character you did not like, because they portrayed the characters well. At times I did not like them, either, but that was the CHARACTER and the WRITING, but NOT the acting.

The special effects were quite good, as well. And the production design was highly imaginative and not the usual fare.

All in all, this was a GOOD movie, and one I would recommend. If you have not seen it yet, then GO SEE IT WITH AN OPEN MIND and be your own judge.

Why so much hate?

When I saw the trailer of after earth I was really excited just like everyone else. I knew it was going to be a hard working movie and there would be a lot of high expectations for it. When the movie came out in theaters I saw all the bad critic reviews so I decided to go and see it for myself. I didn’t have that high of an expectation because it looked like a good movie to enjoy with my friends. And guess what? The movie was not even bad. I see nothing wrong with the storyline, and I think will smith had a very good idea. The acting by Jaden smith was actually really good. Compared to his karate kid, I think he really proved that he can step up to a bigger expectation. I think that this movie is a good sci-fi to watch as a family and have a great night out, and I think that the critics should have really realized that. Overall the movie was a good satisfying movie to go and watch with my friends and I think that after earth is a very nice. Movie to watch.

5 reasons to love Netflix

I have many friends who criticize too much on Netflix because they just have a very nice bunch of old movies. Yes… as I said, a very nice bunch of old movies.
Despite of what they say, old movies are great for mind and soul 🙂
Since I got my account on january I spent all the new movies… even the newest movies I had already seen, and then… the expected happened: I ran out of new freshie movies.
But that was not the end, when that happened I decided to take my time to watch the oldies, and since then I proudly say “I saw that movie!” when my friends passes a very good oldie movie.
On april I had the joy, yes Joy, to watch a movie named “Only You” who’s main actor is the always charming Robert Downey Jr. Since I loved the movie I decided to show it to one of my good cousins who is sort of contaminated by the new gang movies like Fast and Furious (for what I know that is his favourite), and he loved it. Then I continued with my boyfriend and one of my best girlfriends. They all liked as much as I did. Is just brilliant.
After this I realized that Netflix is a great way to kill neurones in a very sofisticated way. I just like to lock my bedroom door and watch a movie. By the way, now many of my friends are joining me on this new “trend”.

My 5 Reasons to Love Netflix:
1. You can see almost all of the Top Gear seasons (The British version please). If you haven’t seen it you haven’t had fun yet.
2. It’s even better than Bluckbuster: on my concept. Just pay USD 7.99 and have a full month to watch as much as you want. -I should get payed by Netflix for this-. If you want to watch new movies again just go to the movies as many times until the movie looses the grace as long as the film is in the boards… realy, forget about renting movies.
3. Works great if you want to cuddle with your love or if you want to spend some time with your parents and have a great chat topic.
4. You can discover great movies of which you may have never heard of, but at the end you get surprised and pleased.
5. You can have those movie nights with your friends you always dreamed.

5 Not old Movies I recommend you to watch on Netflix you may have never heard of:
1. Restoration
2. Bride and Prejudice
3. Mansfield Park
4. To Rome With Love
5. Up in the air

5 Oldies you should (maybe MUST) watch:
1. Escape from Alcatraz
2. Breakfast at Tiffany’s
3. Miracle on I-880
4. Curse of Golden Flower
5. Il Sindaco
